Opening reflection by Katie Nakamura Rengers
“Do not quench the Spirit!” Paul says. The Spirit. ever present, ever mischievous, is constantly trying to catch our attention. She uses all those human moments- joy, nostalgia, boredom, exhaustion, wonder – to tap us on the shoulder and say, “pay attention to me!” Our response whether it’s excitement or annoyance, is called Prayer. Don’t quench the Spirit – dance with her!

Yes to It All
In these days
grief like pollen
covering everything
in layers, hardened
or wistful
there is more:
first dragonfly of the season
already plump,
blue herons chasing across the sky,
violets purpling the perimeter
of a not quite hidden pool,
dew drops placed like diamonds
on fingers of grass,
chatty birds allowing no silence–
such a surround of dazzle.
What can be more perfect
than this natural
holy
disorder and order
of spring?

The spirit was surrounding me and inside me as I walked through the beautiful flowers. I thanked the Huntingtons for giving us such a treasure.

O our mother the earth, O our father the sky,
Your children are we, and with tired backs
We bring you gifts that you love.
Then weave for us a garment of brightness,
May the warp be the white light of morning,
May the weft be the red light of evening,
May the fringes be the falling rain,
May the border be the standing rainbow.
Thus weave for us a garment of brightness
That we may walk fittingly where the grass is green,
O our mother the earth, O our father the sky.
