Huntington Beach State Park – June 29, 2024

My first walk on the beach at Huntington today in over six months; walking in sand presented too much stretch for a knee in rehab mode.  But today, I needed to feel expanse!

And I did.  That ocean spread wide and long before me, and it reminded me of steadfastness.  Despite rip currents within which warned, Do Not Enter, I could walk alongside those waves of power, feel the refreshment of its energy, find calm.  I walked among the remains of what was, what is, evidence of millions of lives of sea creatures now lining the shoreline with their shells.  My footsteps in the sand today will not last.  I will leave behind only some energy made of gratitude for this beauty, this moment, this invitation to be one with it all.

I am reminded of this line from Rumi: “You are not a drop in the ocean.  You are the entire ocean in a drop.”  Can I live into the true expanse that is my life?  Can I say yes to the walk when the time is right?

Sultry sunny awe

Diamonds shine on blissful seas

Breathing in beauty.
