Huntington Beach State Park – Nov. 18, 2016

Instead of an opening reading, we reflected on gratitude and thanksgiving… for those things, big and small, that we are grateful for in our lives… family and friends; the glory of nature; our Holy Cross community; this beautiful State Park; and many, many more.

It was an important time for me to “let go” and then have room to fill up with gratitude in that beautiful space. Not easy to do that week with that uneasy fear floating around us all!

My heart was heavy with the outcome of the election… I walked with the intention of trying to let go of my fear.

I first walked to the beach where there were “islands” of sand created as the tide came in… I realized that we cannot stop the tide from coming… it will ebb and flow in its own way. I cannot stop the political winds and tides, but I must figure out how I can be an island of hope and love and action amidst the incoming tides.

The large concrete pieces (which I assumed had been destroyed by the hurricane and then transported here) on the utility road reminded me that there has been, and always will be,  destruction and  darkness in this life… but that we can get through it together, with the help of God. The bright beauty of the day was a reminder of our resilience and light.
