The Cycles of the Seasons

My intention today was focused on embracing change — looking ahead to upcoming changes and transitions in my life and that of my family. Although I believe that change is an integral part of everyday life, the months ahead promise specific and significant transitions. As I began my walk at Brookgreen, almost immediately I came across the noise of leaf blowers and trucks preparing for a big event the next day. The normal tranquility of Brookgreen was interrupted by noise and activity. This made me think about the preparations I have made or would make as these transitions in my life play out… but also reminded me not to worry about potential and unknown outcomes, but to do the best I can in preparing and then embrace and surrender to the changes as they unfold.

As I walked beyond the activity I came across a trickling fountain, where I stood for a bit to listen to the water and feel the cool breeze on my face — encouraging me to let the breezes and waters of change flow over me — moment to moment…

For much of the rest of my walk I was drawn to the new green growth everywhere. Although the flowers were glorious, the green buds, foliage and emerging leaves shouted to me of joy and the changes of the season.  This cycle of seasons and change spoke to me through the newly fallen brown leaves of the live oaks as they mingled with new flower petals in the fountain waters and laid an earthen carpet to enrich the soil for future growth.

Embracing change now

Churning flowing to my heart

Surrender I must.
